Colon Infection. Colon is nothing but large intestine. It contains motion, stools inside it. So colon infections are not uncommon especially when you eat outside food and if it is contaminated with bacteria, virus and all that. That can cause infection inside the colon so that is called colon infection or it is also called as colitis. Bacterial or maybe colitis a different varieties of colitis are there. So in colon infection we have to detect what is the cause of the infection whether it's a bacteria or it is amoeba or it is some virus different varieties of organisms can cause that and then treat accordingly. When there is colon infection usually there will be loose motions. Many times it may pass associated with the blood and mucus and then stomach pain and increase the frequency of the motions. This is how we come to a diagnosis of colon infection and then if it is short duration we call it the acute colon infection, if it is long duration repeatedly happening for long periods we call it as chronic infection. In all these cases the first and foremost thing what to do is a stool examination to see what sort of infection it is and then if it is a chronic infection repeatedly occurring we have to do something called colonoscopy wherein a small camera is passed through a small tube into the colon through the anal canal and check everything and if required we may take even a small bit of tissue for biopsy and make a proper diagnosis and treat it accordingly.
