Turkey has made significant progress in its defense industry in recent decades, and one of the shining stars of this achievement is the Hurkus light combat aircraft. This aircraft is not only a symbol of national pride, but also one of Turkey’s important steps towards achieving independence in the field of military technology.
The name “Hurkus” is taken from a Turkish aviation pioneer, Vecihi Hurkus, who was one of the first pilots and aircraft designers in Turkey. The Hurkus project was initiated by Turkish Aerospace Industries in 2006, as part of the Turkish government’s initiative to develop domestic capabilities in military aircraft technology. After years of development, the first prototype of the Hurkus made its maiden flight on August 29, 2013.
