Changing the date format isn't a critical step when customizing WordPress. However, if you have a preference for the date display, it's nice knowing how to change this setting.
The date format options are readily available in the WordPress admin menu under the General Settings page. There you'll find four pre-defined formats as well as an option for a custom format. You can click the link above to see all the configurations available when using the date format characters.
Once you update your format, it will change across your admin dashboard and the front-end of your site. All well-coded themes and plugins will respect the format you've selected.
