1980, Moscow, the Olympics. The city is completely desolate: the authorities did their best to put all adult residents on leave and send their kids to summer camps. People that aren’t registered in Moscow are simply not allowed to enter the city. But then suddenly, the empty streets are filled with tens of thousands of people. This isn’t an authorized rally, nor is it being dispersed. People are coming together to bid farewell to the most popular musician and actor, Vladimir Vysotsky. Strangely enough, inside the closed Soviet society Vysotsky managed to speak up about the most pressing issues without being banned and put on a huge number of concerts while still being allowed to travel abroad.
Why wasn’t he able to rise to stardom anywhere except for his homeland despite having traveled half the world? What role did Marina Vlady play in his life? Why was he loved by so many? Why do his poems still hold so much relevance today? The latest Redaktsiya episode is already up on the channel.
