In this video, I'll take you through the process of sketching Zendaya, one of today’s most iconic figures. Her unique facial structure and captivating presence make her an intriguing subject for any artist. Whether you’re a fan of Zendaya just enjoy the art of portrait sketching, this video will give you a detailed look at how I bring her to life on paper.

*Step 1: Mapping Out the Face Structure*
The first step in any portrait is to get the face structure right. Zendaya has an oval-shaped face with high cheekbones and a defined jawline, which adds elegance to her appearance. I start by lightly sketching the basic shape of her face with a pencil, focusing on getting the proportions correct. By using simple guidelines, I ensure that her eyes, nose, and mouth are placed accurately.

Zendaya's facial symmetry is crucial to capture. I carefully outline her forehead, cheeks, and chin, paying attention to the gentle curves and angles that give her face its distinctive look. These guidelines not only help with the overall shape but also set the foundation for where the key features will go.

*Step 2: Defining Key Features*
With the basic structure in place, I move on to sketching her features. Zendaya’s almond-shaped eyes are one of her most expressive attributes, so I spend extra time getting their shape right. I use soft lines to outline her eyes, making sure they are symmetrical and aligned. Her eyebrows are thick and well-defined, which frames her face beautifully.

Next, I sketch her nose, which is delicate with a slight slope and rounded tip. I use soft shading to define the bridge of her nose, ensuring it blends naturally with the rest of her face. Her lips are full and have a well-defined cupid’s bow, adding to her distinctive look. I carefully outline the lips and use shading to create depth, making them appear three-dimensional.

*Step 3: Adding Light and Shadow*
To bring the sketch to life, I focus on light and shadow. Zendaya’s skin has a natural, radiant glow, so I start by identifying the light source in the sketch. This helps me determine where the highlights and shadows should be placed. I use a blending stump and a kneaded eraser to create smooth transitions between light and dark areas.

I begin shading the areas where light naturally hits her face, like her cheekbones, the bridge of her nose, and her forehead. The shading around her eyes, under her chin, and along the sides of her face adds depth and dimension, making her face appear more lifelike. It’s important to keep the shading subtle and smooth to reflect the softness of her skin.

Shading is a gradual process that requires patience. I carefully build up layers of graphite, using different techniques like hatching and cross-hatching to create texture and depth. The goal is to capture the way light interacts with her face, making the portrait as realistic as possible.

*Step 4: Detailing the Hair*
Zendaya is known for her versatile hairstyles, and in this sketch, I chose to depict her with her signature curly hair. Capturing the texture and movement of her curls adds a dynamic element to the portrait. I start by sketching the general shape of her hair, making sure it frames her face well.

To create the texture of her curls, I use a variety of line techniques, including tight spirals and loose waves. The key is to vary the pressure on the pencil to create a sense of depth, making some curls appear closer and others further back. This variation gives the hair a realistic, three-dimensional appearance.

Shading the hair is crucial to making it look lifelike. I add darker shadows in areas where the hair overlaps or falls behind her shoulders, and use an eraser to lift off some of the graphite for highlights. These highlights add a touch of realism, making the hair look shiny and textured.
