If you suffer from digestive issues such as IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease), Crohn's, or ulcerative colitis, characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, this yoga pose is for you!
In the longer version of this video on my yoga lifestyle channel, I guide you through this soothing supported bridge pose (with a block) to gently stretch your abdomen, calm your nervous system, stimulate your vagus nerve, and promote relaxation, all while supporting digestion.
The vagus nerve, also known as the "wandering nerve," is a crucial component of the parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for rest and “digest.” By coming into a pose that supports the parasympathetic nervous system, you can experience inner calm, reset your nervous system, lower brain activity, and relax your muscles, all of which support digestion.
But that's not all! In the longer video, I also share with you a way to augment the effectiveness of the pose by stimulating the vagus nerve, regulating heart rate variability (HRV), and reducing inflammation through the release of anti-inflammatory neurotransmitters.
In my yoga videos, I quite often support you in healing and recharging parts of your nervous system, toning down the overactive part (sympathetic nervous system). This particular pose supports your digestion through this powerful combination of supported bridge pose and special bonus.
