MQTT Q&A: Which Quality of Service (QoS) Level Should I Use?
In this Q&A episode, we introduce Quality of Service levels in MQTT and explain some best practices and use cases.
MQTT provides three QoS Levels:
• QoS 0: delivery at most once
• QoS 1: delivery at least once
• QoS 2: delivery exactly once
• In most cases QoS 1 is used, which offers the best compromise between bandwidth and delivery guarantee
• QoS 2 is rarely used. It is the safest and slowest QoS level
• QoS 0 is a good choice for simple MQTT clients, which are just publishing and when message loss is acceptable
👉 Do all IoT cloud vendors support all QoS level?

👉 Summary
• For most common use cases QoS 1 (delivery at least once) will suit your needs.
• QoS 0 (delivery at most once) is good for use cases where you have to cope with low bandwidth and message loss is acceptable
• Q0S 2 is only recommended for scenarios where delivery exactly once is a critical requirement.
