In this tutorial, you will learn How to Select and Change Colors in Photoshop CC.

Photoshop makes it easy to select a certain color and change it something else. We’ll be going with a very manual approach that will yield same expected results every time.

To start of, create a new layer on top of your main layer. Go to Select - Color Range. Here, click on the image color that you want to change, then adjust your fuzziness to get a general selection. The areas that’ll show as white are what will be selected. Add parts of the image that are still not fully white by using the plus eye dropper. You can also adjust the fuzziness until you get a good selection. This takes some getting used to and practicing but there’s no other way around it. When done click ok. Now go to Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Hue/Saturation. Click ok and you’ll have the effect added with a mask selection. This means any editing that you’ll make will be affecting the selection only. Make your adjustments to get the colors that you want. You can always go back and edit this later, since it’s a non-destructive workflow.

If you end up having parts of the selection that you don’t want to be affected, you can always edit the selection mask out with a brush. For a detailed look, check out our tutorials on selection and mask editing for Photoshop.

This is one of the many possible ways to select colors for editing. We feel like this is the one that will always yield predictable results!
