The first highlight of our trip to Russia is the Republic of Kalmykia and its capital Elista. Kalmykia is quite atypical for Russia, both in terms of geography and nature, and in terms of culture and religion. Suffice it to say that Kalmykia is the only region in Europe where Buddhism is widespread. All day from night to evening, we explored the sunny Kalmyk capital, marveling at its sights, unusual and unusual for the average inhabitant of Russia.
In this video we drive from Volgograd to Elista across the steppe. We make a night raid to the Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni, and in the morning we admire the main khurul of Kalmykia from a drone flight. Elista is a chess city in Russia, there is even a separate area of City-Chess, where we also looked. We will also see such sights as the Pagoda of Seven Days, a monument to Ostap Bender and street sculptures, among which the White Elder is especially memorable. We will not ignore the lovely apartment we stayed in and try the simple but delicious Kalmyk cuisine.
