Filer (1987)
"Filer" is a 1987 Ukrainian Soviet drama feature film directed by Roman Balayan, filmed at the Kyiv Film Studio. A. Dovzhenko. The director was also a co-author of the script together with screenwriter Rustam Ibragimbekov.
1916, World War I, premonition of revolution. Vorobyov, a gymnasium teacher, leaves the service in protest against the arrest of revolutionary-minded teachers, although he does not share their views. He is left without a livelihood - he has nothing to pay for a rented apartment, he has a sick child who needs to be treated in the Crimea. Vorobyov is looking for work, even the worst, to pay money. The gendarme department offers Vorobyov to become a filer (secret observer), cooperate with them and report on unreliable people. Vorobyov faces a terrible choice - either to become a snitch, or to remain an honest man without a livelihood.
