From Monday 1 March to Sunday 7 March 2021 the Euregion Film Festival's sixth edition, organised by CineSud, based in Heerlen, is taking place online. Interested filmmakers and cinephiles anticipate several industry events as well as a very diverse selection of short films which make up this year's Short Film Competition.

With cinemas closed and physical events on hold, our hunger for cultural events and the discovery of new film pearls is being nursed by CineSud's digital edition of their annual Euregion Film Festival. Long-time as well as burgeoning filmmakers get the chance to discuss questions about financing, project development or distribution during an online FilmDesk; pitch their newest short film idea at the digital Limburg Film Pitch or sign up for a one-on-one session with one of the staff members of the crowdfunding platform CineCrowd.

At the festival's heart lies the Short Film Competition, including 12 international and eight euregional short films that will be screened online plus a special screening of four short films made right here in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine – in Heerlen. Among others, attending filmmakers have the chance of winning the Audience Award, which the audience will choose through digital votes. Furthermore the audience will have the chance to wittness the Award Ceremony which will be live-streamed for the public.

Our reporter Saskia got into conversation with Guido Franken, the festival's and CineSud's director. Together they talked about the different program parts and a euregional film festival's value in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine.
