Today, June 22nd, 2022, marks 100 years since the Castro Theatre opened - a theatre that came to define an era and a neighborhood. To celebrate this alongside #PrideMonth, we are happy to share this amazing #pointcloud flythrough of this historic movie palace that is a treasured space for film, music, and live performances.
Some history of the theatre: in the 1970s, the theatre began showing #LGBTQ films for the first time, officially marking it as a cultural, economic, and political center for the LQBTQ community in San Francisco. From there, many films showcasing gay directors, actors, and performers would play and premiere here, and in 1976, it was listed as the first San Francisco City Landmark with an LGBTQ association.
