In the "OFF" state, operating mechanism separate moving contact from fixed one to disconnect current flow from input to output.
In the "ON" state, operating mechanism connects the moving contact to fixed one and current will flow from input to output passing from a solenoid or magnetic coil.
two protective mechanisms are anticipated in miniature circuit breakers.
first, protection task against short circuit current. when a short circuit occurs at the downstream of the miniature circuit breaker, high current flowing through magnetic coil produces an electromagnetic force that push moving contact and the short circuit is disconnected.
The second is protection task against overload. When a current more than the nominal current flows, bimetal makes an apposite force to the moving contact, so the operating mechanism operates and the overload current is disconnected.
