Rules: Beat the game

Out of nowhere I heard that there was a brand new fan-made Castlevania 2 remake for the PC with all new graphics, sound, and some extras. Being a big fan of the original NES version, there was no way I could pass this one up. Here are some highlights:

5 minutes - This game is filled with fun jokes. Some of them require knowledge of the original game though, so a newcomer might be a bit confused.

7 minutes, 40 seconds - For some reason my controls stopped working when I spoke to this guy and I eventually had to reset. Not sure if that was an issue with the game or my controller but it worked fine after restarting the software. I was playing on version 0.3 so perhaps this will work itself out in a future release.

12 minutes, 30 seconds - Something else happened with my controls here. I was stuck walking to the right after climbing the stairs in the church. I eventually was able to move again but I couldn't jump. I exited to the title screen and reloaded my game and everything was back to normal.

35 minutes - This spider is always throwing its projectiles upwards for some reason.

47 minutes, 30 seconds - This is clearly a joke and says "process" but the NES version said "prossess". An error of an error?

59 minutes, 20 seconds - Bad scrolling glitch here. Fortunately I was hitting the up button every few steps and once I saved it fixed the screen. Surely this will be fixed in a future release. Also what's with this riddle? I never understood it.

1 hour, 3 minutes, 20 seconds - Another bad scrolling glitch and an odd question. "Have you any laurels"? I have to answer that with "Yes" in order to buy some. But I don't have any! Not yet.

1 hour, 15 minutes, 30 seconds - Don't fall down or you die. Make sure you walk down the stairs instead. Kind of reminds me of classic NES Castlevania games :)

1 hour, 42 minutes - Max money!

1 hour, 45 minutes, 10 seconds - Good jokes here (especially the graveyard duck), but a newcomer to the series would be confused with some of them.

1 hour, 46 minutes, 20 seconds - I can't speak to this guy at all. Not sure if that's a glitch or intended but it will resolve itself later on.

1 hour, 47 minutes, 50 seconds - Odd exit out of town. Not sure if that was intended.

1 hour, 56 minutes, 10 seconds - What was that item? All I could tell was that it restored 10 health. Silk Bag maybe? But why? I don't see how that would make sense in this version of the game.

2 hours - The left and right sides of this town don't have any walls for some reason. Also, the music is so good here. Really gives a tense feeling.

2 hour, 4 minutes, 30 seconds - What? I don't have a Red Crystal!

2 hours, 17 minutes, 10 seconds - Battle of the Holy! Nice song pick! I love how the music changes each time you beat a mansion. Dance to it! Sometimes the music volume seems to fluctuate though.

2 hours, 23 minutes, 30 seconds - Now I can talk to this guy. Was that on purpose?

2 hours, 31 minutes, 50 seconds - Glitched dead Axe Knight here.

2 hours, 52 minutes, 20 seconds - This enemy walked right through the wall!

3 hours, 4 minutes, 10 seconds - I was a little apprehensive to step into this iron maiden but it's fine. Did a cool glitch when pressing right and left during the freeze animation too. What a horrible night to have a curse!

3 hours, 12 minutes, 20 seconds - The timing of this death and the music fading was perfect!

3 hours, 35 minutes, 20 seconds - You can re-enter this area and fight the boss again for no reason, and it starts you on the wrong screen! I like how the background scrolls here by the way.

3 hours, 40 minutes - Some invisible floor nonsense going on here.

3 hours, 49 minutes - This block is not solid. I love the classic NES throwback here though.

3 hours, 50 minutes, 20 seconds - This new life meter for Slogra is cool and more precise than the bar meter. I like it. I didn't think to try subweapons to see if they do any more or less damage. The boomerang might have been great here unless he was immune.

3 hours, 54 minutes, 40 seconds - I love the retro town with the classic town enemies! Also the atmosphere of the Ruins of Castlevania is perfect!

4 hours, 4 minutes - This is a cool boss but it's hard to tell what's going on sometimes because things blend in with the crazy background.

Final thoughts:
This was really fun and is definitely recommended! Once it gets polished up it will be amazing. Why do you have lives by the way? Is there a consequence to losing them?

Some major differences I noticed from the original:
No experience points from killing enemies
No false floors
More blocked off than the original
New optional relic
Day/night cycle removed
Bosses!

Excellent job WarMachine Studios! Please make more!
