A cycle of films about physical and geographical countries. So scientists call dissimilar territories that were formed during the geological history of the Earth. There are thirteen of them in Russia. Each has its own geological structure, relief features, and hence the special natural conditions that determine its originality.
Fennoscandia is a physical and geographical country in the northwest of Europe. Its area is about two million square kilometers. It is named after the predominant settlement of the Scandinavians and Finno-Ugric peoples on the territory. Its Russian part includes the Murmansk region, the Republic of Karelia and part of the Arkhangelsk region.
Most of the region is located beyond the Arctic Circle and faces the Arctic Ocean. However, the climate here is not so harsh for the Arctic. The reason for this is the warm current of the Gulf Stream, one of the branches of which enters the Barents Sea. Hence the diversity of the underwater world, which is difficult to expect in the Arctic.
Lake Onega is one of the largest lakes in Fennoscandia. There are many islands on the lake. The most famous of them is Kizhi Island. In terms of fresh water reserves, Lake Onega ranks second in Europe. And the first place is occupied by Lake Ladoga. Its area is about 18 thousand square kilometers. The lake is famous for the islands of the Valaam archipelago. The largest and most famous is the monastery island of Valaam.
