Our Power Went Out.
A couple days ago we got hit with 100 plus mile a hour winds, and it really did a job on Missoula Montana. There were over 20,000 people without power, and we were one of them. At last count there are still around 10,000 people without power. Since we rent our landlord would only let us setup 400 watts of the 1600 watts of solar that we have, and with only 400 watts and a couple cheap duel cycle marine batteries you can be limited to what you can run for long periods of time. Our power finally came back on today for a couple hours and then shut of again. It came back on again a little while ago. During our power outage I used my cheap 400 watt solar set to run our fridge mostly overnight, and in to the mornings. Running our fridge and chest freezer, and other things would be a bad idea with only 400 watts of solar. So this is what I did. I used my generator to run both the fridge and chest freezer during the day so my solar batteries would charge quicker for that night. Even though my solar would have ran my fridge for 24 hours straight. To run our chest freezer and all our fans and other things I used Mine and my Girlfriends Ram Van. I guess since she got another car the van belongs to me again. Solar is nice to have depending on the size of the solar setup and the number of batteries you have, But if your solar alone does not cut it you have other options to help out. I also made a boo boo when i said my home years power station. That would be my Northpole Light. My home years went out some time ago. This is a long one so I hope at least one person makes it to the end of this one.
