I have recently seen scientists generate lighting balls under laboratory conditions. They dip an electrode into water and apply high-voltage pulse to it. It results in generation of a lighting ball, which disappears in the split second. I this video I decided to carry out an experiment on a larger scale! I dipped a bulky electrode into the river and applied lighting discharge to it, having connected the electrode to the wire and attached it to the kite, which was placed near a thundercloud. But something went wrong. The wire began sparking whereupon it began to hiss and it shined blue. It shed a blue stream of light. as soon as it touched the ground it struck violently. I didn't understand what a strange natural phenomenon I observed! For some reason The lighting bolt didn't strike the river instead it struck the river bank having left burnt land. It is pity that the camera which was used for capturing the kite on video switched off and failed to capture its sparkling on video. Frankly speaking it is not that easy to capture a lighting bolt at close range on video. The camera acts up because of the powerful pulse its memory card acts up as well. But one camera proved to be more endurable and didn't switch off. But I faced another challenge. Lightning flash is as bright as one thousand of welding arcs. The camera fails to adjust the light and gets blinded for that reason photos of lighting bolts are light-struck. Reducing of exposure and sports mode doesn't change the situation. Of course it would be perfect to capture thunderstorm activites on a speed camera but its cost can really shock. Sony NEX-FX700R camera that can get 960 frames per second costs 7000$ whereas Fastec TS3Cine camera can get 10000 frames per second costs 30000$. I can't buy even a pre-owned, almost out-of-repair camera. Maybe you know what can be used to capture high-quality thunderstorm activites on video? Share your ideas! We will be happy to be helped.
We still have lots of ideas but due to difficult situation in Lugansk we are really short of money. But you, our view, can help us in our experiments. Undoubtedly you have some great experiments and incredible discoveries ahead of you! Thanks to your help our videos are recorded more frequently! We will be happy to receive any financial aid you can provide.
