"Remember Me" is a song from the 2017 animated Disney/ Pixar film Coco, written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.
It is one of my favorite animated Disney movies. When I first heard the song, I immediately fell in love with it. It is arranged by the talented Kyle Landry with a little Tracy flare added.
The Day of the Dead (El Día de los Muertos) is not, as is commonly thought, a Mexican version of Halloween, though the two holidays do share some traditions, including costumes and parades. On the Day of the Dead, it’s believed that the border between the spirit world and the real world dissolves. During this brief period, the souls of the dead awaken and return to the living world to feast, drink, dance and play music with their loved ones. In turn, the living family members treat the deceased as honored guests in their celebrations, and leave the deceased’s favorite foods and other offerings at gravesites or on the ofrendas built in their homes. Ofrendas can be decorated with candles, bright marigolds called cempasuchil and red cock’s combs alongside food like stacks of tortillas and fruit.
"Remember Me" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song (with this win, composer Robert Lopez becomes the first ever double EGOT winner). The song also won the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Song and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed playing it!
