Sunset Drive - Under The Endless Sky (1987) [Official Audio] | AOR Classic from "Play for Today"

Description:
📝 Disclaimer: This is a fictional story about a fictional band, part of our homage to the music and the era we miss called the 80's. Our channel is dedicated to Monarch Records, where each band has its own little "novella." And here’s the story of Sunset Drive...

🎸 Sunset Drive emerged from the vibrant Los Angeles rock scene in the mid-80s, alongside bands like Danger Danger, Autograph, Dokken, Southgang, Baton Rogue and Black'n'Blue just to name a few. Comprised of frontman Mark Reynolds (vocals), shredder Jimmy Chase (guitar), groove master Robbie Sinclair (bass, keys), and powerhouse drummer Danny Masters, they were poised to take the world by storm with their unique blend of melodic hooks and hard rock energy.

Their debut album "Play for Today" was released in 1987 on Monarch Records. Fueled by the success of the single "Under The Endless Sky", the album climbed the charts, reaching #20 on the Billboard Rock Charts and landing at #170 on the Billboard 200. "Under The Endless Sky" became a staple on American rock radio, with stations from coast to coast picking it up, especially in cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago.

💿 Legendary performances:
The band quickly became known for their energetic live shows. They played sold-out gigs at iconic venues like The Troubadour and Whisky a Go Go. They even opened for acts like Danger Danger and Cinderella on national tours, where they started to gain a loyal following. The momentum was so strong that Epic Records licensed the album in hopes of breaking the band into the mainstream.

🎤 Behind the music:
The album "Play for Today" was praised by critics for its tight production and melodic songwriting. Rockin' LA Magazine wrote: "Sunset Drive is the perfect balance between radio-friendly hits and raw rock energy. 'Under The Endless Sky' is a track that soars with emotion and power." Meanwhile, Rolling Thunder Radio claimed: "Sunset Drive has everything it takes to make it big – great songs, killer guitar solos, and Mark Reynolds' captivating voice."

🎶 What happened next?
In 1989, Sunset Drive released their second album, "Through the Fire", which was an even stronger album musically but didn’t catch the same commercial wave. Despite the buzz surrounding the band, internal pressures and changes in the music industry led to the band’s split shortly after the album’s release. However, their legacy lived on in the hearts of AOR fans worldwide.

Where are they now?

Mark Reynolds attempted a solo career, releasing two albums in the early 90s. He later transitioned into music production and occasionally performs acoustic sets in local L.A. clubs.
Jimmy Chase became a highly sought-after session guitarist, lending his talents to numerous albums for artists in various genres.

📀 Despite their breakup, Sunset Drive’s music continues to resonate with fans. The reissue of "Play for Today" has been described as "an essential gem in any AOR collection." Their hit "Under The Endless Sky" remains one of the most requested songs on classic rock stations dedicated to the golden era of melodic rock.
