When it came to choosing a school for her daughter, journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones decided on a segregated, low-income school several miles from home.
"This was the hardest decision I've had to make for my child.... I hoped, like many parents, to be able to put her in a truly integrated school." But in New York City, she says that's rarely an option.
