Big Solovetckaya or Muksalminskaya dam is a unique engineering construction built by the monks of Solovetsky monastery in 1827-1865. The monks connected the Kremlin and the Sergius skit with its help. The length of the dam is 1 200 meters, the width of the upper part - 5-6 meters. Main part of the dam passes through the natural shallows to facilitate the construction.
Three arches made in the dam. They need to protect construction from blurring of a tidal current, also they allowed passing on small boats from one side to the other. We, like all locals, had been passing through the Central gate for many years because the two other passes are too shallow for motor boats. Unfortunately, the Central arch partially collapsed in the fall of 2017, it is clearly visible in the video. Now it has become extremely difficult to passing by boat through the gate, this year we were forced to make an extra detour of almost 20 km and go around Muksalma from the East. Let's see if the Museum and the Monastery will agree on some restoration work.
By the way, the clip have been shot during the smallest water (low water) – usually the water level is much higher.
