The REAL reason you’re not creating club head speed?!
Club head speed for most golfers is a huge problem! The truth is that to create speed requires a symphony of reactions throughout the body. These reactions produce speed right at impact for a split second.
The challenge is that creating optimum speed is often different for each individual I teach. Players that already know how to engage their hands arms effectively would be well served improving their ground mechanics! But they are in the minority.
Most golfers do NOT know how to create speed with their hands and arms. This lesson was a prime example of what I see on a daily basis when I’m teaching.
Charlie came to me complaining about a lack of distance. Like most shorter hitters he gripped the club in the palm of his lead hand which immobilized his wrists and lead to a linear release pattern.
While linear speed is ideal for putting and chipping it isn’t well suited to longer shots. As a result he was dragging the club with his body and not moving the club head with any velocity!
As soon as he placed the club across his fingers he started articulating his wrists correctly for the first time!

Drill 1: Feet together Drill
Drill 2: Two clubs Drill
Drill 3: Momentum Drill
Drill 4: Hitch hiker Drill
All these helped Charlie create leveraged (angular) speed. Once you learn how to rapidly ‘decelerate’ the handle at impact it’s easy to transfer energy to the club head with very little effort!
The club simply moves from one direction to other with support from the body pivot. It should never be dragged with the body!
Give these drills a go and pick one that works best for you! And remember while the body is strong, its the hands and wrists that are fast! 🚀🚀🚀
