Precarious migrants, such as refugees and asylum seekers, are often presented in the global north as a direct threat to the future by populist groups in particular. This presentation focuses on racialization, asking how past and present narratives have been embedded in claims of exceptionalism, and how exceptional circumstances have to be understood in a wider perspective, emphasizing interplay of visibilities and invisibilities within a historical understanding.
