The "Joyride" — Featuring Dane Reynolds' "Dumpster Diver 2"
The bestselling “Dumpster Diver” model of the early 2010’s was excavated out of a Ventura trashcan by Dane Reynolds and surfed to smithereens in Salina Cruz.
“I wanted to ride that board [at the Trestles CT event], but back then there was a really weird thing about riding a groveler in a contest,” Dane told Stab in an interview two weeks ago, “The judges wouldn’t give you scores… so we basically took the groveler I liked in Mexico, pulled in the tail a little, and put a shortboard nose on it to hide the groveler-ness. That’s the board…that became the Dumpster Diver model.”
So, like Eddie Van Halen taking pieces from different guitars and screwing them into his Stratocaster to achieve the precise sound he wanted — thereby creating the famous Frankenstrat — Dane pulled pieces from his favorite boards and combined them to make both the OG Dumpster Diver and now the Dumpster Diver 2 (DD2).
